Vermont-NEA Educator Candidate School was created to meet the growing need for pro-public schools and pro-union champions in elected office. Across America, public schools and labor unions are under attack at the federal, state, and local level. Fundamental issues such as access to public education, supporting kids and communities, collective bargaining rights, access to affordable and quality health care, and retirement security, are being eroded.
It’s time educators and Vermont-NEA members had a more expansive role in shaping the policies and legislation that impact our students and public schools. Across Vermont and the nation, we know that educators serve their students and communities every day while seeing firsthand some of the challenges our students and communities face. Educators have the perspective, skills and community connections to serve their communities beyond the classroom.
The goal of Vermont-NEA Educator Candidate School in to train and support educators on important skills necessary to successfully run for office at the local and state level in Vermont. We know many Vermont-NEA members already serve their local communities in elected positions, but more union educator voices are needed to advocate for change in Vermont. Accepted participants will deepen their knowledge and skills related to organizing, fundraising, messaging to help win election to public office.
The program is only open to Vermont-NEA members and the application process must be successfully completed.
