Rutland Teachers, Community to Rally Tuesday Before School Board Meeting to Urge Settlement

After the board’s second refusal to bargain since Friday, teachers urge school board to negotiate immediately after meeting to avert strike
Published: May 12, 2025

RUTLAND, Vt. – A day after the city’s school board refused to bargain for the second time since Friday, teachers, supporters, parents, and community members will gather at a rally Tuesday to urge the board to once again negotiate and avert a strike.

WHO: Members of the Rutland Education Association, parents, supporters, community members and other unions.

WHAT: A rally to show support the city’s teachers, who have been working without a contract since July 1 despite bargaining for 18 months.

WHEN: 5 pm – 7 pm Tuesday, May 13

WHERE: Outside Longfellow Building, 6 Church Street, Rutland

WHY: To urge the school board to reach a fair settlement instead of unilaterally and illegally imposing two years of working conditions and threatening legal action against the people who teach Rutland’s students.
