SPOTLIGHT on Local Negotiations
Rutland Town Education Association
On April 19, nearly all members of the Rutland Town Education Association rallied to support their negotiations team as they tried -- as it happens, in vain -- to compel the board to settle a fair contract. Here are some pictures (oh, and President Martha Allen paid a visit).
Despite the great showing, the local’s negotiating team did not walk away with a settlement, despite its consistent record of fair bargaining.
“Unfortunately, the board was not willing to settle a fair contract with us tonight,” the bargaining team wrote to the membership. The team met for nearly two hours, even offering a multi-year contract to help satisfy the board’s needs in the first year. “They haven’t changed their position in bargaining since before we started.”
